Aircraft lands on a street in Markham

A small plane landed on a Markham road near the Buttonville airport Monday, York Regional Police confirmed.

Police said the plane was going to land around noon when it somehow ended up on 16th Avenue near the airport.

No one was injured, police said.

It is still unclear why the pilot landed on the road.

York police now closed that section of 16th Avenue between Woodbine Avenue and Highway 404. Traffic cameras did not capture the landing, but did show several vehicles on the road after the incident.

Fire crews were called to the scene, but police said there was no fire.
