Altar of stuffed animals for children killed in Laval day care center

Families and the community have gathered around the site of the tragic event to remember and honor the children. A sort of altar of flowers and stuffed animals has been formed at the site in honor of the infants.

Neighbors described the bus driver as having erratic behavior, stripped naked and just screaming uncontrollably. Several parents subdued him until police arrived and took him into custody.

The man has been identified as Pierre Ny St-Amand, 51, and is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He also faces seven other charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon causing bodily harm.

Lawmakers, cross-party leaders and Premier Francois Legault also showed up at the scene today to offer their support to the community struck by the tragedy, but also to recall the importance of mental health.

All the inhabitants of Quebec, its 8.5 million, are at this moment with those affected. Of course it is harder because we are talking about children and there is nothing more important than them, the biggest concern of a parent is that his children are well. So we should not hesitate to seek psychological help, it is very important and many people need it, so please do not hesitate to seek it, ask for it and accept it. I want to thank everyone who got involved to help in a matter of seconds. The only thing I can tell you is courage, we are with you, 100% of the inhabitants of Quebec are with the inhabitants of Laval.
