The Canada Revenue Agency warns individuals to be cautious of scammers pretending to offer them the new grocery refund.
On Wednesday, the federal government began implementing a temporary boost to the GST refund to offset higher grocery prices.
The CRA warns that scammers are already sending text messages and emails falsely claiming to represent the agency.
"The CRA reminds all Canadians to be cautious of fraudulent phone calls, emails, or text messages claiming to be from the CRA.
These are scams that could result in identity and financial theft," the agency said in a press release.
