It's a weekend of celebrations, fireworks, hot dogs, parades, and parties, but once again, it has been marred by bloodshed.
A shooting at a party in Baltimore early Sunday morning, followed by two shootings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Fort Worth, Texas on Monday night, have resulted in a total of 10 deaths and several dozen gunshot injuries in the United States, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of another multiple shooting incident on the outskirts of Chicago.
The weekend and holiday celebration for the 4th of July, Independence Day in the United States, once again has been marked by violence.
The Baltimore shooting left two dead and 28 injured on Saturday night into Sunday morning, many of whom were minors. In Philadelphia, there were five deaths and two injured minors. In Fort Worth, at a party attended by hundreds of people, three were killed and eight injured.
On Monday night, a heavily armed man opened fire on the street in the Kingsessing neighborhood of southwest Philadelphia, killing five people and injuring two minors, according to Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw.
There is no known connection between the victims and the assailant, who apparently fired randomly. The police have arrested the 40-year-old suspect, who was armed with a rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest.
All the victims are males. The gunshot wounds sustained by the minors, aged 2 and 13, are reported to be stable, according to Outlaw. Around 10:00 PM, the police reported that one of the minors was being transferred to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where the other victims were taken.
The ages of the three deceased individuals are 15, 20, 22, 31, and 59 years old. Initially, there were reports of four fatalities. The fifth victim, aged 31, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds inside their own home.
