The Department of National Defense and the Canadian Armed Forces confirm they are aware of recent Chinese efforts to conduct surveillance operations in Canadian airspace and waters.
Spokesman Daniel Le Bouthillier said in a statement that the military has tracked and stopped attempts to surveil Canadian territory since 2022 under Operation WILPF.
He said that to ensure the integrity of military operations, no further information can be provided.
Meanwhile Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said today in an interview on CNN that China is an increasingly disruptive power.
She assured that Canada will work with NORAD to protect North American airspace and will take a firm stance on Canada's Arctic sovereignty as more reports of foreign interference emerge.
His comments come after Canadian media reported that the military had detected Chinese surveillance buoys in the Arctic.
