Canadians receive today the climate action incentive.

Canadians will start receiving the climate action incentive payment from Ottawa starting today.

Between July 14th and 21st, Canadians in the Atlantic region, as well as in Ontario and the Prairies, will receive the tax-free climate action incentive payment through the Canada Revenue Agency, which is intended to offset the cost of the federal pollution pricing.

As a new development this year, residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island will also be eligible for the payments. This is because Ottawa implemented its federal fuel charge in those provinces on July 1st.

According to projections from the Ministry of Finance, eligible Ontario residents can expect to receive $122, $61 for a spouse or common-law partner, and $30.50 for each child under 19 years old.

If you receive your tax refund through direct deposit, you will also receive your climate action payment through direct deposit, the government stated. If by mail, it may take up to 10 business days.

If you have a spouse or common-law partner, only one of you will receive the family credit. The credit will be paid to the individual who filed their tax return first. Regardless of which partner receives the credit, the amount will be the same, Ottawa explained.
