A medida que comienza la próxima etapa de clasificación, las esperanzas y los sueños de Canadá de clasificar a la Copa Mundial penden de un hilo debido a una lista de convocados a la que le faltan algunas piezas clave.
La próxima ronda de clasificación para la Copa Mundial de fútbol para Canadá comenzó esta semana con partidos el jueves y el domingo. La lista de convocados, sin embargo, se ve un poco diferente que antes, con piezas importantes que faltan desde la última vez que la selección nacional saltó al campo. La estrella Alphonso Davies se perderá toda esta temporada mientras lidia con la miocarditis debido a su lucha con el COVID-19. Davies no tiene un calendario para su regreso ya que está fuera por tiempo indefinido. Aún así, esto no cambia la mentalidad que tiene la selección nacional de esperar resultados positivos de cara a esta temporada clasificatoria.
John Herdman, entrenador de la selección masculina de fútbol de Canadá, dijo que perder a Davies es una gran pérdida y que todo el equipo lo extraña; pero señaló que no cree que haya excusas para conseguir los resultados que buscan.
“Creo que hemos demostrado que somos fuertes, somos resistentes. Esto va a ser difícil, pero clasificar para una Copa Mundial nunca ha sido fácil”, dijo Herdman.
Hasta esta temporada, Davies ha aparecido en todos los partidos, menos en uno de la temporada clasificatoria, con un gol y tres asistencias en dichos juegos. Davis ha jugado en el medio campo y en la banda para la selección nacional; ya que hace jugadas, marca goles y controla el ritmo del juego. Con él fuera, estos roles ahora serán asumidos por el equipo mientras intentan llenar el enorme vacío que queda sin su jugador estrella. Se desconoce el estado de otros dos jugadores para esta temporada; ya que se rumoreaba que Stephen Eustáauio y Junior Hoilett no jugarían en estos juegos clasificatorios de la Copa Mundial. TSN informó que Eustáauio dio positivo por COVID-19 mientras que Reading FC informó que Hoilett se lesionó recientemente. Eustáauio es un centrocampista que puede ocupar el centro del campo para ayudar a la defensa pero también hacer jugadas en el lado de ataque para generar algo de defensiva. En particular, consiguió un gol y una asistencia contra Costa Rica en los cuartos de final de la Copa Oro de CONCACAF.
Ambos jugadores están en la lista de convocados y, aunque no jugaron el jueves, Canadá espera tenerlos en el campo en algún momento de esta temporada.
Tal y como se dieron a conocer las listas el martes, la alineación inicial proyectada de Canadá consta de Milan Borjan en la red, los defensores Allistair Johnston, Steven Vitória y Kamal Miller. El área de mediocampo estará compuesta por la leyenda canadiense Atiba Hutchinson y Johnathan Osorio en el centro, mientras que Richie Lareya y Junior Hoilett jugarán en los costados. Finalmente, en la parte delantera, veremos a Johnathan David como delantero, con Cyle Larine y Tajon Buchanan como extremos en la formación 3-4-3.
Osorio, Hutchinson, Larin, Hoilett y Johnston fueron titulares en el juego que logró obtener la victoria contra Honduras, el jueves por la noche, en estadio Olimpico Metropolitano. El equipo regresará a casa el domingo para enfrentarse a Estados Unidos. Terminando su ciclo el 2 de febrero cuando van contra El Salvador en San Salvador.
Canadá busca clasificarse para la Copa del Mundo por primera vez desde 1986; ya que una nueva generación de estrellas canadienses ha llevado las riendas del equipo a competir con altas expectativas.

The Canadian team is getting closer to qualifying for the Soccer World Cup
As the next qualifying window starts, Canada’s hopes and dreams of qualifying for the World Cup are now left with a roster missing some key pieces.
Canada’s next round of World Cup Qualifiers kicked off this week with matches on Thursday and Sunday.
The roster, however, looks a little different than before with major pieces missing since the last time, the national team took the pitch.
Star fullback Alphonso Davies is set to miss this entire window as he dealing with Myocarditis due to his bout with COVID-19.
Davies does not have a timetable for his return as he is out indefinitely.
This does not change the mentality that the national team has as they expect results going into this window.
John Herdman, coach of Canada’s men national football team says losing Davies is a big loss and that the team misses him but notes that he doesn’t think there will be any excuses for the results.
“I think we’ve shown we’re strong, we’re resilient. This is going to be tough, but qualifying for a World Cup is never easy” says Herdman.
Up until this window, Davies has appeared in all but one match of the qualification cycle with a goal and three assists in those games.
Davis has played in the midfield and wing for the national team as he makes plays, scores goals, and controls the pace of the game. With him being out, these roles will now be taken on by the team as they attempt to fill the massive hole that is left without their star player.
Two other players have their status unknown for this window as Stephen Eustáauio and Junior Hoilett were rumored to not play in the World Cup Qualifying Window.
TSN reported that Eustáauio tested positive for COVID-19 while Reading FC reported that Hoilett recently got injured.
Eustáauio is a midfielder that can hold the middle of the pitch to help the defence but also make plays on the attacking side to generate some offence.
Notably, he got a goal and assist against Costa Rica in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals.
Both of these players are on the roster but they did not play on Thursday. However, Canada is hoping to get them back at some point in the window.
As the rosters were released on Tuesday, Canada’s projected starting lineup consists of Milan Borjan in net, Defenders Allistair Johnston, Steven Vitória, and Kamal Miller.
The midfield will consist of Canadian Legend Atiba Hutchinson, and Johnathan Osorio in the center while Richie Lareya and Junior Hoilett will be playing on the side.
Finally, on the front end, we will be seeing Johnathan David as the striker, with Cyle Larine and Tajon Buchanan as the wingers in the 3-4-3 formation.
Osorio, Hutchinson, Larin, Hoilett, and Johnston started in the game that managed to win against Honduras, on Thursday night, at the Olimpico Metropolitano Stadium. The team will return home on Sunday to face the United States. Ending their cycle on February 2 when they go against El Salvador in San Salvador.
Canada looks to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986 as a new generation of Canadian stars have taken the reigns of the team to new heights.
