Man pushed onto train tracks at Bloor-Yonge station

One person faces an assault charge after an argument at Toronto's busiest subway station led one man to push another onto the tracks Tuesday night, Toronto police said.

Two men got into an argument at Bloor-Yonge station during the evening rush around 6:15 p.m. Jan. 3. The argument escalated and one man pushed the other from the platform level onto the tracks, police said.

TTC special agents attended the scene and arrested one person, who was later turned over to police. He has since been charged with assault.

The man who was pushed was unharmed and helped off the tracks before a train approached, police said.

It is unclear if the men knew each other. TPS investigators are working with TTC special constables to investigate the incident.

Bloor-Yonge station is the busiest subway station in the country and its platforms are often packed during rush hour. The station is set to receive a $1.5 billion facelift over the next few years that will provide more platform space.

Rising instances of violence at the TTC have been a concern over the past year.
