One thousand dollars in fines for fireworks.

Police are warning residents not to bring personal fireworks to Woodbine Beach this long weekend, as they seek to prevent a recurrence of a series of high-profile incidents that have marred Canada Day celebrations in recent years.

Fireworks and alcoholic beverages will be strictly prohibited during the Canada Day celebrations at Woodbine Beach, and hefty fines will be imposed on those who violate the provision.

On Canada Day in 2021, a total of eight individuals were charged after allegedly shooting fireworks into crowds and at police officers on horseback patrolling Woodbine Beach.

Most of those incidents were not repeated last summer when the police increased their presence on the beach.

However, there were a series of similar incidents that took place during the Victoria Day celebrations at Woodbine Beach in 2022.

Inspector Hayles also shared information on how the city's largest fireworks event on Canada Day will be conducted and what attendees should take into account during the show.
