Soccer star Pelé is buried after massive funeral

Pelé now rests in peace after a 24-hour wake at the Santos stadium and a 4-hour parade through the streets of the city, covering almost seven kilometers in front of the carioca star's fans.

The body of the Carioca soccer player rests in the Memorial Ecumenical Necropolis of the city of Santos. The cemetery overlooks the stadium, where the wake took place.

The Memorial Necropolis Ecumenica is the highest vertical cemetery in the world with up to 10 floors, and simulates a residential building. Pelé chose it because his relatives are also buried there.

The funeral procession with Pelé's body went through the streets of the Brazilian city of Santos. The ex-footballer's coffin traveled with a Brazilian flag on it, mounted on top of a fire truck and made a stop at Pele's mother's house.

Newly-positioned President Lula Da Silva arrived at the stadium in the morning hours to participate in the popular tribute to the soccer idol. An estimated 230 thousand Brazilians lined up for up to 3 hours to pay their last farewell to the only soccer player to have won 3 World Cups.
