South American presidents protest Machado's disqualification

The presidents Luis Lacalle Pou and Mario Abdo Benítez made it clear their condemnation of the maneuver by the Chavista dictatorship to prevent the participation of the opposition candidate.

Presidents Mario Abdo of Paraguay and Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay called on their counterparts in Argentina and Brazil to condemn the antidemocratic drift that Venezuela is currently experiencing, with its regime blocking the presidential candidacy of opposition leader María Corina Machado in recent days.

During the summit held in Puerto Iguazú, in the northeastern region of Argentina, with the presence of host President Alberto Fernández and Brazilian President Lula da Silva, the issue of the disqualification of the Vente Venezuela candidate was discussed.

Lacalle also referred to a meeting convened by Lula da Silva in Brazil, where the issue was addressed. Since assuming office in January 2023, the Brazilian president has approached the Caracas dictatorship, with visits from officials of all ranks and his own meeting with Nicolás Maduro, the head of the Chavista regime.
