The Vatican presented today, Friday, the list of participants for the upcoming assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will take place in October. For the first time, the list includes women and laypersons with voting rights.
However, there will also be participants, although without voting rights, such as James Martin, an American Jesuit priest who is close to the LGBT community, and Luca Casarini, an anti-establishment activist and head of a migrant rescue NGO, among others.
Father Martin is a Jesuit priest, the editor-in-chief of America magazine, and the founder of Outreach, a ministry for the LGBT community. Since 2017, he has served as a consultant to the Vatican's Dicastery for Communication.
"I am honored to be invited by the Holy Father to participate in the Synod. As a Jesuit, I am committed to this kind of group discernment and look forward to discovering what the Holy Spirit has in store for the synod and for the Church," Father Martin expressed.
